What FTL models are appropriate given my constraints? I'd like to have faster-than-light travel (and communications) be an late-game option for a video game I am working on. The extent of the playable universe is approximately 4 million light years in all directions, and this area will have at least 1 spiral galaxy in it, plus whatever other features I ... (more) |

Can the color of an alien sky be calculated solely from atmospheric composition and the star's (or stars') spectral type(s)? What exactly are the relevant numbers for such a calculation, and can it account for the color of the sky? By sky color, I mean the day to day hue that humans (or something else with very similar eyes) would experience if present on the surface. Earth is "light blue" or "robin egg blue", I don't nee... Randomly generating plausible star types for a synthetic galaxy? I'd like to randomly generate between 1 and 20 million stars for a spiral galaxy resembling our Milky Way. This is of course far fewer than our galaxy (estimated between 150 to 300 billion), but I'd like it to resemble ours in proportion. Generating the locations so that they resemble a spiral patter... Sun-like sky objects in a flat world? I'm positing a non-planetary world but within Euclidean space. This world has things that resemble mountains (but probably not plate tectonics). Elevation varies considerably, but on average it is perfectly flat as far as any inhabitant could tell. If they were to do the various experiments Flat-Eart... (more) |

Given the mass and composition of a planet, can one determine what the radius should be? I'm trying to auto-generate random solar systems, and I'm basically just allocating 2% of the total system mass to planets (and moons). It provides interesting results, I always have a few gas giants, I often have many Mars-and-Mercury-massed planets. But to calculate surface gravity, I need a radiu... (more) |
