What kind of climates and biomes would exist on the continents a tidally locked ocean world? Please note: I am asking about planet orbiting a star, not a moon orbiting a planet. So I've been trying to get this planet down for a long while now but there are still so many pieces of the puzzle that I have yet to figure out; What types of climates and biomes would exist on this planet and how c... What would influence an alien race to map their planet in a way other than the traditional map of the Earth I was looking through a bunch of different ways we can shape a map of the Earth and it got me thinking. We map out planet as a stretched rectangle with NSEW as Up Down Right Left, with the Equator right in the middle. But what would cause a species to prefer a different way of mapping? Tidal Locking... Could a microorganism reproduce so fast that it can be used as a sustainable "burnable" fuel source? [Repost to condense question down] For a science fiction world of mine I am considering using a type of microscopic organism that is able to generate energy as it goes through its lifecycle, a life cycle so fast that a group of them would be in a constant state of reproducing, decaying, and producing... Would it be possible for life to evolve on a planet with intense solar radiation, to the point where they can thrive in direct contact? If you look at one of my previous questions, I ask about a tidally locked planet and it has come to my understanding that such a planet would be under a lot of radiation from the sun. So I'm curious if larger lifeforms could evolve to survive in such conditions if it were happening for billions of ye... (more) |

What would be the usefulness of both arms and fins on a sea dwelling, amphibious organism? I am currently designing a highly intelligent species for a sci-fi project I am working on. They are quite similar physically to prehistoric salamanders or similar amphibians, but I am having trouble coming up with a reason they would evolve arms longer than their legs and becoming hexapeds (so they ...
