Are ghosts made entirely of gas possible?

I'd like to create a temple haunted by beings who are ostensibly ancestral spirits - basically, ghosts. How could ghosts be explained without an afterlife? gives me some intriguing ideas, but I'd like to go in a slightly more tangible direction: Creatures made of gas.
I mentioned this idea in chat, and I was pointed to Fred Hoyle's (yes, the Fred Hoyle!) book The Black Cloud. Supposedly, Hoyle inserted scientific justification for the possibility of such a creature inside the book. However, I have access to neither the book nor a strong analysis of it. In any case, it doesn't resemble my envisioned creatures in quite a few ways.
Here are my requirements:
- The creatures must be able to reproduce, just like normal ("solid"?) live reproduces.
- They must be made of organic compounds, and must take in organic compounds for nourishment (either by consuming other organisms or via autotrophic processes) and, of course, excrete organic waste.
- They should be of no particular shape - after all, they're gas - but should be able to fit within a 6-foot-by-6-foot-by-6-foot box imaginary box (there's no particular reason for this).
- They need to be able to create some sort of sounds reminiscent in some way of speech that can be heard by humans.
- They will have to survive on an Earth-like planet, specifically, in a temperature climate zone.
- They do not need to be sentient.
Are these creatures possible?
